Foote Diary: January 3rd, 1985
Cold still, with a light dusting of snow in the night; temperature in the mid-20’s. By 9 o’clock it was coming down fast; by 11 the flakes had become sizeable and were beginning to collect on the frozen grass, dispensing by the minute; a couple of inches by noon.
Dressed warmly for trip to city council chambers in early afternoon- the land-use control board is saying that will decide whether to accept the construction of condominiums …? just across Parkway. I will be among those scheduled to speak for a couple of minutes in opposition.
Before leaving I finished Agricola and read through Germania. That leaves only the Dialogue on Oratory unread; I’ll move on to it tomorrow, god willing. Then – on the way out- I called the land-use office and was told the hearing was has been cancelled; it will be rescheduled for some date later next week, when I’ll be in New York. So I settled back down, while the snow came down thicker, bigger-flaked, and harder by the minute. By night fall it was nearly one foot deep; perhaps a record for this date.
Went through Behalji- Merin’s Goya then and Now a near complete survey of the paintings. Ow!
Cereal for supper for a change. Two Bowls.
