April Fool; surprised Gwyn at breakfast by telling her the Paris Trip was off. Then hastened to say, “April Fool!” Forestalling heart attack. Mozart piano sonatas 10-13, plus piano variations.

Super D; got prescriptions filled, got travel kit articles. 20th century check arrived: $1086.60. Deposited it in bank; also cashed $45 med. Insurance check.

Continued Mozart- Divertimentos, serenades, 2-piano concerto, violin-violin symphony concertos, oboe quartet. Walked 2 ½. Gwyn April fooled me by saying the Internal Revenue and Social Security authorities called while I was out walking. Turnabouts fair play.

Woke and rose at 5:45; cereal breakfast while reading paper. Mary didn’t get here. Continued Mozart: Haffner symphony, quartet 14, 15, quintet 2, wind serenades 11 and 12, Lintz symphony. All great, out of his early prime.

Late morning, picked up two pairs of slacks at James Davis. Got them for Paris. Walked 2 ½; played quartet 18, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik , which is just as good as people think it is, though they should know greater things as well. Slept through TV thriller.

Continuing study of Michelin map of Paris; I intend to know part of it thoroughly by the time we get there.

Slept till 7; Mary here; breakfast. Mozart con-timed- Quartet 16, Horn Concerto 3, Piano Con. 14. Bank; Sam Hawley Ingram. Transferred $7500 from portfolio to checking account; arranged for renewal of ED on 2 May- this time for six months. Also arranged for $200 in finances and $1500 in Traveler checks, to be picked up on the 16th or 17th. Squares me away for three week Paris trip.

Wrote to Ron Chernow saying I have no criticism of the revised reports “tone and substance,” though I hope the vagueness and bumps will be polished away. Took corduroy slacks to Ellis River for adding an inch to the waist- also for Paris. Walked 2 ½; played cumion? Mass, to midway through Credo; the rest when I get back.

More Mozart: Piano concertos 15-20, quartets 17-18, piano fantasia and sonata 14. Wrapped the Browning cassette for sending to Hugs, along with a note assuring him that we don’t want to be a burden on him, “nor you on us, old son.” Will mail it tomorrow. Found commercial tapes on Conc. 19 and 20 defective; so I recorded them from my Serkim records, using an old 60-min Faure tape. Dinner at La Tournelle; duck for Gwyn, flounder for me- preceded by mussels and mussel soup.

Post office; sent Hugs the Browning tape. Paperback copies of French editions of LDS and September came in mail from Rosen. Continued Mozart; Piano concertos 21-23, piano quartet 1, violin sonata 14, piano Qt. 2, horn concerto 4, Bassoon concerto – last two during walk to and from Morningside, where I spent some time with Tunkie, Found him better off than I expected, I’m glad to say.

Gwyn met Avery, who came by hers from New Orleans. She’ll stay till Tuesday. After dinner, while she and Gwyn watched TV, I played four-hound? sonatas 6 and 7. Practically everything left to play-post-k. 497-k pure gold: Mozart quintets, the last six symphonies, the last XXXX piano concertos, the last four quartets, and soon and soon.

So ends good Friday.
