Tuesday, February 11th [1986] Streets still icy; drove with caution to + from radiation. Letter from Louis Rubin repeating his desire to republish Jordan County. Paid $13 parking ticket I got about ten days ago at the hospital. I’m into the second section of Mid-Lothian + still more improved, in part my humor, but still slow-going. Made a late-night unattended VCR tape of “Swann in Love” from Cinemax.

February 12th, 1986

Ash Wednesday; streets still icy, but much less slippery than before. Radiation continued. In afternoon, drove to Outdoors Inc. out Poplar; got new bulb for bedside flashlight. Tobacco corner; got full-Canadian pipe cleaners. Put off watching ["Swarm?] to see "Bringing up Baby" with Carly Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Broan and old, but I still liked it.

Thursday, February 13th [1986] Tried going later (9:30) for radiation but didn’t like it; larger wait + less parking space, will return to 9 oclock. Bank; increased $17,500 CD to $25,000; Extended it to six months @ 7.5%. Also added $7,500 to my Portfolio One account. In round figures I would have $25,000 in CD, $8,000 in Portfolio One, + $4,000 in Checking account. Total: $37,000. In afternoon, drove out to Bobcat Motors; used magic glue to fix dash pocket latch. Lean Cuisine for dinner. Afterwards watched “Swann in Love.” A disappointment, as expected; but I liked certain aspects. Call from Balty, the Englishman who’s making a Civil War documentary for British TV, called from Nashville. He—Peter Balty--+his son David—who was here last year—will come to talk with me on Saturday, 9:30 a.m.
