Began Euripides’ Happoloytus; a curiously unsatisfactory play—demonstrative, for me, of reasons why I prefer both Aeschylus + Euphucles. Too humanmaybe; or just not stark + terrible enough to measure up to the notion of grekart.
Called Cline about Cartier clock; says it will be ready next week (after 3.5 months) + at same time I can leave my pocket watch for cleaning.
Called Allen Fisher; couldn’t reach him, but talked to Sandra Mullins, who says she’ll get back to me about house/see insurance problems.
Good news in mail room from Loomis: hardback Warhas gone into new printings—Vol. I, 16th; Vol. II, 13th; Vol. III, 9th. Lots of Books.
Letter from E. Esau McNaughton, AIA, New Orleans, confirms $750 honorarium for 17-19 Oct conference in Natchez. Reservation made for Gwyn + me at Eola Hotel. Itinery will come by mail presently.
Finished Hippolytusby mid afternoon; pale indeed by comparison with The Bacchae. Walked two miles but got held up by an autograph hunter—40 mins. Played Mozart, Divertimento 15; good walking music.
