to box there with Punkin. thene and there was a half foolish man who lives there and when he boxes he just swings his arms and if you hit him he wouldent know the dif. I asked him if he had any brains and he said no and laughed. He always laughs after he says anything. After that I went skating my skates only came off 2 times

Sun. Jan 28, 1917 Bright and Fair. Donald and I had a snowball fight out in out front yard today and Lena Royce came up to our house and sange some songs. There was one the Cry of Rachel. It was awful Werid and it made me feel like going over and help the Allies fight the germans. They dont know much. I'd like to know what is the matter with all the kids around here lately they dont seem to come down to our house or anywhere to get together and have some fun but some times I go up to their house and when I get up there they have an engagement with their girls. It make me pretty near sick Let 'em just wait and they will be sorry. any how I had some [illegible] with donald

Mon. Jan. 29, 1917. Warmer.

I just hate to go to Sunday school only yesterday we had some fun. Edison and I pretended to want to finish a story in our sunday school paper and his sister and Edna gricoes stayed and they chased Edson and me all around the church and we pumped air in the organ and ed played it, it went like this the pump went squeek squeek squeek squeek and the organ went Boom ya boom ya boom ya ya ya Boom ya Boom ya Boom ya ya ya ya Boom ya anyway we had some fun. Jan 30. Gee up to the High Schoolroom you can raise the duce and get away with it. tonight After school I went down to snookems to box. Hambone went down too.. Snookems is a [badly?] boxer he can put it all over me. I never cried once Snookems he gave me some great sidwinders and uppercuts. And while I was swinging my arms trying to come within 1 ft of him. I gave him an awful one right in the side and it made him yell and nearly fall over. I dont know how it happened. It must have been an axident

after a while Hambone began to box with snookems and he could gard better than I could but when he hits it feels like he was trying to lick you with a lambs tail. He cant hit hard at all. I went to the picture show tonight. Up to school Harty hollered right out when classes were passing Hello Fat and prof called him down right in front of the whol aroom and called hima little green potatoe. I had to laugh. There are about 200 people in the room

Jan 20 1917

Cold. went down to Charley wrights and boxed. Snookems gave me one on my sore lip and I cried for a minute I guss he was scared because he wouldent box with me any more. Even if he can lick me boxing he cant in a real fight because I have tried it and I put my arms around him and gave him the bear hug and get him down and lam hime out of [time?] I have done it before and I can do it again I went to a lecture on astronomy and they had some slides. Gee I thought they would give us something. new but I knew all about except that about about tides and stars I knew all about the moon and the sun and everthing

He was talking about sunspots and he dident say anything about every 11 years great explosions are on the sun and that there are more sunspots then than any other time.

Jan. 31, 1917 Gee Whilikens, What do you think, tonight we had a thunder shower & it rained. Just as soon as the rain struck the ground it froze. Some time to have a thunder Shower This Afternoon papa could hardly print the paper because there was so much electricity in it I gess it is because every 11 years explosions occur on the Sun and it affects Wirless telegraphy [illegible] & sunspots & some other things The clouds were awful low so that the eletric lights shone on them and it looked as if there was a fire over in warsaw or somewhere. I went up to snookies to box tonight and I waxed him up pretty good and knocked his glasses off nearly I dident cry once. When I get mad I begin to cry and when I get like that I can pitch into a fellow and lam time out of them & they can hit me all they want to but it dont hurt me when [I?] am mad. I dont like to get mad because then I cry

Feb. 1, 1917 Very cold, Punkin came over tonight after supper and we tied each other up and then tried to untie ourselves once punken was gruntin and tying knots for about ½ of an hour and I got out in about 1 minute after a while bud came up after a book and then punkin had to go home we went with earl & stayed up till 10 o’ clock

Feb. 2, 1917 I earned a quarter today by taking a lot of posters around to the business places and asking them to put it up where it can be easily seen and then I went over to the hardware and got 1 pound of putty and I went upstairs to the tinsmiths and he made me a 17” putty shooter I can shoot pretty straight with it and I am going to make som cork darts which will stick into anybody because there will be a pin on each one. The kids better not get smart around me. I have got a slingshot which will bury a B.B. in soft pine, but the
