APRIL 4th Month 1945

15 Sun- 2nd after Easter Gorgeous day. Went to S. School in morning & afternoon and taught Primary. Gordon preached at Sutton in morning. Gordon, Bruce, Judy & George came to tea. Bruce preached in evening. Betty, George Judy & Walter Constable came to supper.

16 Mon Very hot day. Janet & I spring cleaned the lounge Gordon came for tea & supper. Bruce came in in the afternoon & evening. Got changed in evening and read. Went to bed early

Lovely day. 17 Tues Helped Mummy all the morning. Did a lot of ironing. George went on leave. Gordon came for dinner & supper. Read in afternoon Set potatoes in evening. Betty & Judy also came to supper.

Very hot day. Helped Daddy on the 18 Wed land all day. Set potatoes and drove the tractor. Gordon finished his tour of ops. Had Bible class on lawn in evening. Joan the Padre, Betty Gordon Judy Ted Leslie, Geo.[] Gordon is staying with us.

May 5th Month 1945

Quite nice da. Bill went into [ ] 6 Rogation Sun-5th after Easter Did not feel well in morning so stayed at home and did H.W. Went to S. School in afternoon Went to chapel in evening. Daddy & [ ] Betty Lionel and George came to supper. Went to bed early

Lovely Day. Surrender of all Germany [ ] 1 Mon-Bank Holiday (Scotland) Rogation Day Did not go to school as did not feel well. Went out hoeing in morning. Washed up & did some more hoeing in afternoon. Copied some notes up in evening. Went to bed quite early.

VICTORY IN EUROPE DAY

8 Tues-Rogation Day Felt ill all day. Drove the tractor for Daddy in morning & afternoon. Went with Daddy & Gordon to Mr Constables to tea. Afterwards went to service taken by Daddy & Gordon with Walter. G. told me he loved me. Lovely day.

Nie day. Drove the tractor for 9 Wed-Rogation Day Gordon all the morning and afternoon. We had a big party in evening. I enjoyed it very much. Judy Molly, Ted, the Padre, Joy, Tommy & Geo. Phang, Bill []

1945 31 Days MAY Lovely day.

10 Th--Ascension Day

Didn't get up until fairly later. Betty is []about breakfast. Spooned []. Just us on lawn in afternoon. Did some sewing and had a practise in evening. Went to bed early.

11 Fri--New Moon 8.21 p.m.

Very hot day. Hoed strawberries in the morning. Went to Sutton and did some errands with Gordon in afternoon. Went to Sutton again in evening with Gordon [Colin.] Afterwards went for a walk in the orchard. Had first experience of L. Gorson went to stay at Humphreys.

12 Sat Very very hot day. Helped Mummy in the morning and cut the lawn. Had a bath in afternoon and did some homework. Bill Gordon & Judy came in afternoon. Had a bath. Did some more revision in evening.

Wed. of sick bay for evening) & Betty Maclean who stayed the night came. Party finished at 2am to wild [ ] when we took Bill home.

May 5th Month 1945

Wet windy day. 20 Whit Sun-Pentecost Went to S. School in morning. Gordon took it. Went to Primary afterwards. Went to S. School again in afternoon. Went to Chapel in evening. Judy & Bruce came in to supper.

21 Mon-Bank Holiday Warm showery day. We all went out hoeing peas in the morning and afternoon. Gordon & Daddy went on the tractor. Drove tractor for a little while in evening. Gordon took Janet & I too the pictures. Saw the Prisoner of Zenda. G.hmh

Quite a nice day. 22 Tues I cleaned Gordon's bedroom in the morning and went driving the tractor for him. The tractor wouldn't go in afternoon. Did dinner [] up. Got changed in evening and some of my essay. Drove tractor for 3/4 hr.

Rather nice day but cold in evening 23 Wed-Ember Week Continued doing freeze in art. Had singing lesson but not gym. Did English in free lesson. [] came to stay for 10 days. Did not go to B. class. finished English essay

May 5th Month 1945

27 Sun-Trinity Sunday Cool showery day Full Moon 1.49 a.m. Went to S. School in morning and taught Primary. Wrote to Sheila in afternoon. Went to watch Chapel in evening. Daddy preached. Judy & Geo. Phang read lessons & Barney sang. Bill & Patty came with us. We all went into the [] afterwards.

28 Mon Fairly nice day. Had a nice letter from Gordon. Did notes in biology & had to take the kindergarten for a lesson in my free lesson. Didn't do much in art in afternoon. Had quite a nice music lesson. Had a practise in evening and wrote quite a long letter to G. Leslie & Better came to supper.

29 Tues Rather cool day. Still doing notes in biology. Did not go swimming as did not feel very well. Came home in afternoon and didn't get much work done. Had a practice & drove the tractor in evening. Went to bed early.

Quite a nice day. Started doing the 30 Wed big version of my frieze in art. Singing lesson pretty boring. Did nothing in free lesson. Had a very boring lantern lecture all the afternoon on Coal. Gas & Smoke abatement. Mrs Crimbert & Miss Bye Gordon came back in evening.

JUNE 6th Month 1945

3 Sun--1st after Trinity Showery day. Moon's last quarter 1.15 p.m. Went to S. School in morning & taught primary. Mr Young & Gordon took S. School in afternoon. I played. Went to Ely for tea in Fairview Terrace. Went to chapel in evening. Daddy took anniversary service.

4 Mon Quite a nice days. Did note in biology. French & history not too bad. Continued doing frieze in art. Couldn't seem to play properly in music lessons. Spent all the evening doing French. Bill & Ted came in. Gordon came to work on land in evening.

5 Tues Nice stay. Still notes in biology. Went swimming in morning. Had a lovely time. Miss [] in very bad mood in English. Came home in afternoon. Helped Mummy & had practise. Struggle with English essay in evening. Drove tractor for Gordon. Poured with rain nearly all day.

6 Wed

Had some fun in art. VIth form all late for singing so we were sent to Miss Tickly. Didn't get much done in free lessons. Spent all evening doing my English essay on moonlight.

JUNE 6th Month 1945

17 Sun--3rd after Trinity St. Alban Moon's first quarter 2.5 p.m. Lovely day. Went to S. School in morning and taught primary. Went to S. School again in afternoon. We all went to Wardy Hill [] & took Geo. Phang & Eric with us. It was their anniversary.

* 18 Mon Lovely day, disected frog in biology. Had free lesson instead of French. Notes in history. Watched Betty Drake's wedding in dinner hour. Didn't do much in art. Couldn't get the time right in music lesson. Cut flowers & drove tractor in evening.

19 Tues Very hot day. Helped Mummy in the morning and picked some strawberries. Had a practise and picked strawberries in afternoon. Sunbathed after tea. Bill came in. Drove the tractor for Daddy. Betty came in for a short time.

20 Wed Quite a windy day with showers. Had a letter from Gordon. The AOC came & inspected the camp. Very busy ironing all the morning. A Waaf Marie helped pick strawberries all day. Geo. Phang came to dinner. Mowed lawn in afternoon. Had a practise and wrote to Gordon.

JUNE 6th Month 1945

24 Sun-4th after Trinity Very hot day. St. John the Baptist Midsummer Day Played at S. School in morning & taught primary. Sat on lawn in afternoon & wrote to []. We all (except Janet & Betty) went to Thetford in evening. Judy came with us. Daddy preached.

25 Mon- Full Moon 3.8 p.m. Lovely day. Started dissecting arteries of frog in biology. Didn't have french so copied history notes Didn't have art so did revision. Had quite a nice music lesson. Auntie Daisy, Uncle Dick & Grandma came to tea. Did some revision and cut a few bunches of flowers.

26 Tues Rather cool dull day Picked strawberries and mowed the lawn in morning. Picked some more strawberries in afternoon & went to Sutton & did various errands. Had a practise in evening picked currants with Nev. and drove tractor.

27 Wed Rather cool day. Went out picking strawberries in morning. Had a practise in afternoon & did some revision. Gordon turned up in evening. He is staying at Humphrey's for 2 days. Went to Bible Class. The

JULY 7th Month 1945

22 Sun - 8th after Trinity St. Mary Magdalene Lovely day at school Went to S. School in morning and taught Primary infants Went to S. school again in afternoon. Daddy took us. Gordon took service at [bedford]. Thetford in evening July with us went in the car

23 Mon Very hot day. Still doing frog in biology. Read in free lessons. Went to park in art but did not draw. Had quite a nice music lesson. Went to the pictures with Gordon in evening. Saw Lady Hamilton []

24 Tues Lovely day. Had Biology in morning and then helped Miss Cowper for 2 lessons. Had English lesson & went home in afternoon. Helped Gordon heap pea straw. Picked falled apples up in evening and went to Sutton with Gordon to take the [][back] also out to Grandma's

25 Wed -- St. James Full Moon 2.25 a.m. Lovely day. Watched some plays by the juniors in the morning. The II form were very good. Had singing lessons then had a free lesson. Saw a performance of She Stoops to Conquer by school dramatic society in afternoon. V.G

1945 31 Days JULY

26 Th Peggy's birthday. Showery day. Checked books and looked at some photos of Miss Saunder in morning. Ushered for the Seniors Parents Party in afternoon. Washed my hair and did some mending in evening.

27 Fri Wet in morning but fine later. Had no lessons at all and broke up at 12o'clock. Miss Saunders, Mrs Weeley & Miss Crawford left. Miss Saunders gave each of us a book. Helped Mummy in afternoon and packed in evening. Had a bath & Gordon brought my supper to bed.

28 Sat Lovely day. Got all the work done early in morning and then we all set off for Birmingham in the car. Left Gordon at home and Judy's sister & little girl are coming to keep house. Had one puncture on the way & had some difficulty in finding Auntie Anns house but Memo eventually arrived at 6.15pm. Played games in evening.

Wed Mummy took bible class. Gordon Padre Bert. Deny's Judy, Geo Phang. Mr Cottan & Leslie came.
