Tuesday August 21 1845 We got underway of the Anchoring ground and proceeded down the Bay their the ship was to an anchor on account of the abscence of the Shipkeeper who was so unwell that we had to leave him and get another man in his place the [Faurens?] came down astern of us hove to and hailed their captain and proceeded to Sea.

Friday 22 1845 AM Wind S by West. Light breeze PM Wind the same the Packet Harriet. Captain Harris of and for New London came down within hail reported the Shipkeeper as no better. At 3 O Clock Capt Brown came down haveing shiped another man in his own stead. We got under way with the intention of getting to sea but finding the wind East by South we came to anchor. The Capt. took a Boats crew and went ashore to Plumb Island wher he remained that night

Saturday 23 AM Capt B and boats crew arrived on board [this.] Morning about 7 o'clock the wind being SW we proceded to sea PM we were all engaged in clearing decks securing boats anchors cables and so on until 4 0 clock when all hands were called to quarter for the choice of watch and boats crews the choice of offering conluded The capt spoke as follows

Monday 25 AM Wind W by N Moderate PM Wind NE 5 knot breeze

Tuesday 26th AM Wind W by N loft watches set PM Wind continues W by N weather Mi

Wednesday 27th AM Wind SE moderate PM fine weather until 8 O clock when the wind Hauled into the NW and blew a gale at 12 O clock at night [starboard?] watch was [called?] we found ourself in the Southhern edge of the gulfe blowing verry heavy so much so that at 2 o'clock all hands were called to take in sail

Rials and ye galant sails and fore & aft topsails this night was anything but Pleasant for a green hand but 5 days to sea to be called on to go aloft on A gale of wind amid rain thunder and lightning to Which seem to the Heavens With One continued flush I say these sircumstance must awaken in the minds of gree[n] hands some idea of a storm at sea

Thursday 28th AM Wind Continued N W more Moderate Labored watch employed in setting up for fore Rigin PM Wind N by E increas again

Friday 29th AM wind E by N Blowing close by Topsails breas PM Wind and Weather the same nothing of importance

Saturday 30th AM wind south east increased to A gale Close reef Topsails and as much as we want at that PM wind hauls to the southward [?] And Increases fast

Sunday 31th AM Labored watch called at 4 oclock the wind was Blowing at furious rate and there was on her waves a close reef fore Topsails The ship was on the wind through the Day the wind increasing every moment.

Monday Sept 1st AM wind south we was 1 1/2 Degrees to the Southeast of the Gulphe when the belabored watch was called at 4 o'clock the ship was Tying to under Foretopmost sail the mate order of the studing sail turbling is not
