Sent down our studden [STUDDING] sail yards. Spoke Ship [Franklin CROSSED OUT] Dewit [DEWITT] Clinton of Sag Harbour [HARBOR] with 30 bariles [BARRELS] of oil. Saw a Sperm whale. Loward [LOWERED] and chaist [CHASED] but without success. Nothing more worth of remark. Latitude by obs vation [OBSERVATION] 5°-=05 Long [LONGITUDE] by Cronometer [CHRONOMETER] 102°=15

Middle part takin [TOOK IN] sail as yousoul [USUAL]. Latter part maid [MADE] all sail again. Stering [STEERING] SW. At 7 AM raised a shole [SHOAL] of whales. Loward [LOWERED] and chaist [CHASED]. Got on to one and mist [MISSED] him. Got on to anumber [ANOTHER] finely [FINALLY]. Struck and got stoved. One man badly hurt. So ends this hard day with the los [LOSS] of a line.
