all this day light breezes from the S E
weahter clear & Pleasant at daylight in
the morning set all sail & steered to the
N ward soon raised whales [lowered] & gave
close chase but without success at 9
A M took a lunar by measuring the
distance of the moon from the Sun and
found the Chronometer 62 miles to the
E ward of the Ship latter part saw 1 small
[white?] whale & chased hard but did not
get hold at sun set took in sail the
day Ends with Sorrow Lat Obsd 32:35
Long 9:15 East

Wednesday the 6 th

all this day light airs from the N ward &
fine weather at 6 In the morning set all
sail & steered to the W ward at 10 Spoke
with the Falson Hatch of New Bedford with
5 whales [?] from the Portland Cook
of Newburg with nothing latter part saw a
whale & chased but to no affect at sun
set furled Top Sails & steered S W under
Short sail So remains Lat Obsd 32:35
Longitude 8:20

Thursday the 7 th

light breezes throughout the day
weather pleasant Ship under all
sail 1 Ship to the N ward supposed to be
the Dryad Saw several whales & chased
hard but got none hard times but
all well So goes Lat Obsd 33:29
