Ship under all sail. Course E per compass.
Middle and latter part stee [steer?] the same
course. Hands employed in ships duty
as occasion required. Boatsteers in grinding
craft. So goes all well. Lat obsd 38:50

15 days out Sunday the 10th
First part strong winds from the
W ward with frequent rain squalls.
Ship under all sail. Steering ESE be
compass. Middle and latter part the
wind and weather a bout the same.
At 6 AM saw sperm whales to the
wind ward. Halled [hauled] in our steering sails
and braced the yards but saw them
no more. At 8 squared a way our
course and set all sail. The day being the
Sabbath no labour done more then
occasion required. So goes. Lat obsd
39:02 Long 31:55 by ohe [?]

16 days Monday the 11th
Began with fresh breezes a bout the W. Ship
under all sail. steer E be S bee compass.
At 5 PM saw sperm whales lored [lowered] for them
but saw them no more. at the same time
saw Flores bearing E distance 10 miles.
At sunset felled away and steered Sth. Left
Flores off our larboard quarter. At 10 clok
steered SE be S for Fayal [Tayal?]. Latter part
the wind weather and course the same. So goes
