Friday 28th December 1849 The day began with light wind from South and pleasant weather at 2 PM tacked ship in course of the watch had Some rain Middle and Latter parts had variable wind various sorts of weather ship under all sail steering to the eastward Latter part the Boatsteers [BOATSTEERERS] commenced grinding Irons the rest of the watch variously employed so past [PASSED] this day all well Lat [LATITUDE] by Obs [OBSERVATION] 5..08 Long [LONGITUDE] 25..30

Saturday 29th Began with Daffling [BAFFLING] wind and frequt [FREQUENT] Rain ship under all sail working to the S East watch at work ripinig [RIPPING?] up an old sail Latter part had a steady wind from ESE steer S by East spoke with a schooner 24 days from Boston bound to St [SAN] Francisco so End[S] In Lat [LATITUDE] 3..58 Long [LONGITUDE] 25..00

Sunday 30th This day began with light wind from ESE and dark weather ship under all Sail steering to the SSW by the wind A Brig to the Leeward steering the same way Latter part had a calm and verry [VERY] warm one sail in sight bearing WSW the day being the Sabbath no Labour [LABOR] done onboard worth note so ends all well Lat [LATITUDE] by Obs [OBSERVATION] 3..51 Long [LONGITUDE] 21..30

Monday 31st Began a calm Middle rather squally and some rain Latter part had a steady wind and pleasant weather 4 sail[S] in Sight all working to the Southward watch variously employed as required so ends the year all well In Lat [LATITUDE] 4..03 North Long [LONGITUDE] 24.00 west

Tuesday January 1st 1850 The day commenced with baffling light wind and frequent rain ship under all sail standing to the SE 4 ships in sight all standing the Same way. Latter part had nearly a calm and frequent rain watch Employed at Ships duty betwen [BETWEEN] Showers nothing in sight but water supposed Lat [LATITUDE] 4..00 Long [LONGITUDE] 24..00

Wednesday 2ond Began with a Light wind from S East and gentle showers Steer to the South at 6 PM the wind South brace around and stand to the South Latter part had a light breeze from N by W steering S by W per compass set a topmast studding sail on the Larbord [LARBOARD] Side one Ship in sight standing to the NE so ends all well Lat [LATITUDE] by Obs [OBSERVATION] 4..08 Long [LONGITUDE] 22..10

Thursday 3thd Commenced fair weather and light wind from N steer South middle had thunder and Lightning and some raine rain Latter part had fresh wind and frequent rain squalls steer S by East one Ship in sight showing Dutch Collers [COLORS] so ends Lat [LATITUDE] by Obs [OBSERVATION] 3..00 N Long [LONGITUDE] 21..30

Friday 4th Began with Light wind SSE and Rain steer to the Eastward close hauled Middle and Latter parts had calm and pleasant one sail in sight watch employed fitting Purches [PURCHASE] Blocks and at sundry other Jobs as required so ends all well Lat [LATITUDE] by Obs [OBSERVATION] 2..41 Long [LONGITUDE] 21..20

Monday 7th Commenced with Light wind from SSE and darke [DARK] weather Ship under all sail working to the Southward Middle and Latter parts had fresh wind from South and frequent rain Steer to the E ward [EASTWARD] Saw two Barks boath [BOTH] Steering NN East Latter part watch Employed bradeing [BRAIDING] some net[S] So Ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 00..59 North Long [LONGITUDE] 21..31

Tuesday 8th Began with pleasant weather and a fine breeze from SSW steer to the SE close hauled a Bark to the windward standing to the westward Latter part had the wind South tack Ship and Stand to the SW all hands employed coopering Bread So ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 00..30 N Long [LONGITUDE] 20..25

Friday 11th 1850 The day commenced with strong Trades and pleasant weather ship under all sail steering to the SW middle and Latter parts had nearly the same weather nothing remarkable occured [OCCURRED] Onboard the watch on deck variously Employed one Ship in sight steering the same way so goes Lat [LATITUDE] 2..40 Long [LONGITUDE]

Monday Janaury 14th Commenced with stiff Trades and pleasant weather steer by the wind heading about SSW Latter part had about the same weather the wind ESE square[D] yards about one point nothing in sight but water and fish the watch to work on the main Rigging So goes Lat [LATITUDE] by Obs [OBSERVATION] 7..50 Long [LONGITUDE] 27..00

Tuesday 15th Commenced with pleasant weather and light Trades ship under all sail steering SSW per Compass at 5 PM raised a sail ahead Latter part had strong wind and rather squally one Ship in sight on the Larboard quawter [QUARTER] steering by the wind to the South Lat [LATITUDE] 10..04 Long [LONGITUDE] 27..41

Wednesday 16th Began with strong trades and fair weather Ship under all Sail Steering SSW per Compass Middle and Latter parts had light wind weather the same nothing in sight but water watch employed knitting yarns and at Sundry other Jobs So gows [GOES] Lat [LATITUDE] 12..19 Long [LONGITUDE] by Chr [CHRONOMETER] 28 22
