Friday January 18th Began with light airs from East and fine weather carry Topmast and Top gallant studding sails steering SSW bend [BENT] a fore Topmast Staysail Latter part had wind and weather nearly the same employed riping [RIPPING] an old Sail and at some other small jobs as necesity [NECESSARILY] required So gows [GOES] Lat [LATITUDE] by Obs [OBSERVATION] 15..50 Long [LONGITUDE]

Saturday 19th Began with pleasant weather and Light wind from SE onbend [UNBENT?] the Fore Top sail and bend [BENT] another Latter part had fresh wind saw a Ship steering North watch to work on the Rigging the Cook and steward butchered a Hog the day ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 17..40 Long [LONGITUDE] 29..16

Sunday 20th The day Began with Light Trades steering South Latter part had rather more wind hauled up S by E to make Trinidad the day being the Sabbath no Labour [LABOR] done onboard more than was absolutly [ABSOLUTELY] necessary so ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 19..20 Long [LONGITUDE] 29..12

Monday January 21st 1850 Began with fres [FRESH] Trades and Squally weather Ship under all sail steering SSE at 4 PM made Trinidad bearing S by W per Compass squared yards and run off to the Leeward of it Latter part had fair weather the wind E by N at 6 AM suared [SQUARED] yards and steered SW 1/2 S set a lower studding sail and On bent [UNBENT?] the Fore sail to mend In Lat [LATITUDE] 21..25 Long [LONGITUDE] 29..40

Tuesday 22ond Commenced with Darke [DARK] weather at 6 PM finished mending the fore sail and bent it Middle and Latter parts had a strong breeze from NE and fair weather Steering SW 1/2 S watch employed Ripping up a Top Sain [SAIL] and Mending a Jib so ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 23..24 Long [LONGITUDE] 31..40

Wednesday 23thd This day began with Moderate weather and Light wind from NE steering SW 1/2 S saw a Ship steering to the NW Middle and latter parts had nearly the same weather steer SW employ mending a Jib nothing In sight but water the day ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 25..12 Long [LONGITUDE] 32..22

Thursday 24th Began with moderate weather and Light wind from NE Latter par [PART] had strong wind and warm weather Ship under all sail steering SW saw a Brig steering to the Eastward watch employed setting up Rigging So ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 27..25 Long [LONGITUDE] 23..50

Saturday 26th Commenced with strong wind from SE Ship double reefed Top sails steering SW Middle and Latter parts had pleasant weather and light wind set all sail saw severel [SEVERAL] breaches but could not ascertain what thay [THEY] ware [WERE] Latter part watch employed setting up Rigging so ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 30.00 Long [LONGITUDE] 35..08

Sunday 27th Throughout this day had pleasant weather and light wind from SE Ship under all sail steering by the wind to the SW the day being the Sabbath no Labour [LABOR] done more than was absolutely necessary so ends all well In Lat [LATITUDE] 31..31 Long [LONGITUDE] 36..40

Tuesday 29th January 1850 Began with strong wind from S by E and dark weather at 3 PM finished mending the fly Jib and bent it shifted studding sails on the starboar [STARBOARD] Side and steered SW by S Latter part had some Rain and rather squally handed Top gallant sails and hauled up the Main Sail the day ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 35..57 Long [LONGITUDE] 41..55 west

Wednesday 30th The day Began with fresh wind from South and Rain ship under Top sails to SE at 2 PM wore Ship and set the Main sail Latter part had light wind at 9 O[']clock saw Sperm whales lowered and struck one about Noon so ends Lat [LATITUDE] 35 40 Long [LONGITUDE] 43..00

Thursday 31st Commenced with strong win[D] from W and fair weather at 3 PM took the whale a long Side [ALONGSIDE] and took in sail the remainder of the day was spent makeing [MAKING] necessary Preperations [PREPARATIONS] for cuttings at dawn[?] Bent a hawser on the Chain and veared [VEERED] him off 60 fathoms Latter part had a gale from WSW stand quarter watches Lat [LATITUDE] 35..35 Long [LONGITUDE] 42..00

Friday February 1st 1850 First part had a gale from WSW Latter part rather more moderate at 5 in Morning wore Ship and commenced cutting but made verry [VERY] bad work of it so Ends In Lat [LATITUDE] 35..25 Long [LONGITUDE] 41..40
