Joh[N] Potuguese was called aft for strikeing [STRIKING] the Second Mate. Mr Isaac Blanchard[?] and after promising the Captain that he would behave himself and do his duty he tolde [TOLD] him to go forward
March 31st stoped [STOPPED] at Talcahuano for water and vegetables
April 3th [RD] the Captain sent word from the shore to have the ship get underway At 1 O[']clock PM all hands was called to weigh anchor The crew all readily caime [CAME] but the said John Potuguese he said he shoud [SHOULD] not do any more duty and the ship could not go to sea until he had a days liberty which was not allowed any one, he also said that he did not car[E] for the Capatian or the voyage and he would fight until he died before he would do any more duty After the Cat [CAPTAIN] caime [CAME] onboard he called him aft and asked him why he denyed [DENIED] duty His answer was I shall do no more work in this ship in presents [PRESENCE] of myself Erastus Barns Isaac Blanchard and Thomas Lopez[?] He was then put in the rigging and floged [FLOGGED] by the Captain before the crew He then promised to behave himself and do duty like a god [GOOD] and faithful seaman and was [...] down and sent forward
