Title: Whaling Log of the Portland, 1846-1848
Description: The second half of the log has been identified as belonging to the bark (alternately referred to as ship) Portland, which departed out of Sag Harbor, N.Y. on a whaling voyage to Chile in August 1846 and returned in July 1848 under Joseph R. Corwin, master. It's believed the first half of the log may be for the previous voyage, which departed out of Sag Harbor, N.Y. on a whaling voyage to New Zealand in June 1844 and returned in 1846. The master for that voyage would have been Jared Wade Jr. However, a ship name and captain haven't been identified.
