Thursday March 19th
At daylight weighted anchor and stood out of the Harbor
with a light breeze from the land which soon left us
and we had to down boats and tow for about 5 hours
when we took the sea breeze and beat out the Bay
in company with the French Frigate Ringiere. four of our
men left us while lying at anchor in here and one
jumped overboard while beating out he ws over about
1/2 hours before we missed him, lowered two boats and pulled
in found him about a mile and a half from whore with
5 shirts and 2 pair pants hat and boots on he was quite willing
to get in to the boat. took him on board Capt gave
him a lecture and a dose of Towline tea.
Friday March 20th
Squally wind from NE steering NW for Mowee [MAUI]
which is in sight. at 8 oclock luffed by the wind on
star tack with Main yard aback
Saturday March 21st
At 6 AM layed forward and stood in to the S and E
round Mowee and Hahowowa [HONOLULU?] braced round the
yards one side of 100 times during the watch
Sunday March 22
Light bafling winds very squally arived at Mowee and
came to anchor about sunset found here 27 Whale
ships Columbia of S [SAG] Harbor came to here a few
minutes before us from her we got some news from home
Monday 23
Went on shore in Capt boat I employed in getting necessities
was off and on from the shore all day
Tuesday March 24th
Employed in getting off recruits the first part of the
day got our recruits and men on board and took our
anchor and left the Harbor about sunset steering W
for the NW Whaling ground the El Dorado of the right Whales.
