Bessie D. Irvine (1882-1965) was a graduate of Richmond High School and Kentucky State College. She taught 6th & 7th grades in Madison County Schools and was on the Madison County School Board. Miss Irvine taught over fifty years in the public schools of Kentucky. These letters are from friends and family members, some of whom she taught with and who encouraged her to pursue her degree at Kentucky State College. One of her sisters was also a teacher, two of her brothers owned the Irvine Brothers Tailor shop and another attended Howard University Dental School.
