Modern teaching is somewhat alike. All of a sudden the winkers fall off and we find it too late to save the day. Our schools could teach to look both ways and over both shoulders.Oh well, a thought, anyway not much worse than creating a ministry for the roller skating or marbles.

I spent many days on long rides with my Dad. Horses were the only means of transport ( oh yes, Shanks-s pony too). I learned a lot of bushcraft and survival -roughing it, how to sleep in pouring rain, how to light a fire in wet weather and to appreciate nature. only kill or cut to survive, not to waste.

he wreck of "Marloo" was of great interest as were the many things washed up on beach, boats, furniture, timber. We spenet several Xmas hols at Indian Head, fish, oysters, wongs.

I was on Indian Head when End of World was predicted 1917. I think a very interesting phenomena, sea was purple and all kinds of sea snakes and buds washed up on beaches, cyclonic winds, seaweed feet deep.

Fraser Island tho, rick in timbers did not have Bongi Pine or Red Cedar. The legend goes somewhat like-

In dreamtime when Chief Kauri called his people together to allot the areas to the various sub chiefs "Caroar" was given a section "Picbeening" given a section, "Bongi" was allotted a place, immediately "Red Cedar" protested that he was entitled to that place. Bongi objected, words flew and tempers got hotter, spears were thrown and clattered on shields. This caused much upsetting of proceedings, challenges and fighting. Chief Kauri stepped in grasping "Bongi" in his right hand and "Red Cedar" in his left. He first threw "Red Cedar" and then with a mighty swing "Bongi". They bothsailed out over the water, "Red Cedar" falling first on banks of Monnaboola river and "Bongi" falling further up the river. That is the reason no Bongi or Red Cedar grew on Fraser Island. In 1917 Walter Petrie planted "Bongi" Pine Aracaua Bidwillii. Also some Red Cedar and so broke the spell of so long ago and proved there is a place for everything, provided ..?
