Let no one feel dissatisfied by what he has done, but let him
prepare himself to do more. Let everyone carry in his heart
the holy determination to do his duty bravely and wholly.
Look as our example to our noble Armies in Virginia and
Georgia who under the very walls of Richmond and
Atlanta are daily undergoing ten times the suffering and
the privations experienced by you during our whole Expedition.
Decide to follow their noble example and then make
yourselves worthy of your calling and of the unexpresible
on you. Let courage endurance and devotion to our cause
be in your hearts. Let your prayers be for the restoration
and redemption of our glorious country and liberty and
the Union be your motto.
