Dear Dr. Davenport

The project of Dr. Bartsch concerning dissecion
of cerion hybrids has received further consideration
since receipt of your letter of October
twentieth and I think you will be interested in
learning that Dr. Bartsch is thoroughly in sympathy
with your statements.

In a letter recently received from him he
writes:

"We disected more than 15 each of the
parent species and found them absolutely identical.
Of course, if it should be desirable to dissect 10
and make drawings of these 10 so as to show that they
are identical, with the drawings, as well as merely
in words, that can be done. In all the species that
we have dissected and all those of which we have already
published figures, quite a series were taken
apart to make sure of the very thing that dr. Davenpoirt suggests, and in every instance we found fixed
anatomic characters. If there had been variation
shown there at all, I should not have been as
keen about this hybridproblem as I am."

"In the forthcoming colume on the hybrids, I
shall certainly rivet and clinch every statement from
every angle. The fact of the matter is I shall be
glad to transmit the manuscript to Dr. Davenport and
the rest of the group interested in this problem for
suggestions, so as to make it as free of possibilities
for criticism as can be done, and with such help as I
know these gentlemen will be glad to gfive me, I am sure
all such questions as the one raised by Dr. Davenport
will be eliminated."

If, however, you have any further suggestions or comments
to submit in connection with the present appli-
