Bell St Dundee

20 Nov 1862

Mr. Douglass

My dear Sir As treasurer of the Dundee Ladies Anti Slavery Society I remit £1 as payment of your Paper and am instructed by the Committee to say that they will not be responsible for the cost of it after the term expires as they have no funds in their Exchequer.

It has been deemed necessary to suspend operations owing to the condition of the British Operatives—nothing will be heard of at present but to get them through the winter—Besides there is a great aversion to meddle with American affairs in any way at present—

We hope God will overrule this war for promoting Emancipation though we see clearly this is not the object of the war.

Yours very truly

Janet O. Borwick Tr.
