Rochester April 17th 1863

My Dear Sir:

I am renewedly obliged by your favour—and herewith return the signed receipts as you direct. I shall write soon to Mrs Webb. Please remember me kindly to my venerable friend Mr. Tappan—I love to think of him and of his noble services to my race and to all mankind.

My work just now is to fill up the 54th Massachusetts Regiment. This is the best service I can do at this hour. Two of my sons are in it. The go to peril all for Liberty and Country. May God defend them.

Yours Very Truly

F. Douglass

W.M. C. Whiting Esqr.
