The Rev. Chas. Clokey of New Albany
having responded to an invitation to
address the Asso. upon this occasion,
the regular order of exercises was sus-
pended until after the address.

He determined to prove by two argue-
ments alone; the Divine argument, and
the argument of Nature, that woman
is created the equal of man intellectu
ally and spiritually. The two halves being
equal, were both intended for the same
responsibilities and purposes; - examples
being given to illustrate.

He interpreted the 15th verse, third
chap. of Genesis, as meaning that woman's
influence should oppose evil.

Passages of scripture were quoted to show
where woman's words had been those of
wisdom and of justice. The most notable
illustration given was from the XXVII chap
of St Matthew, where Pilate's wife, Claudius
Procla, sent unto the King, this message,
"Have thou nothing to do with that just
man". In concluding his remarks, the
speaker avowed himself an ardent believer
in womans' right to suffrage.

A rising vote of thanks was tendered
at the close.

The business before the meeting was
now considered. The Sec'y report was
read and accepted. The Treasurer report-
ed that state dues amounting to $3.50
had been forwarded to state Treasurer,
