The Pres. gave a brief sketch of work done by
the Assoc for the year.
Mrs Rogers proposed that Miss Clay
be invited to lecture here. No definite
action take in this matter as to appoint-
ing a date. Mrs Avery proposed that
Mrs Chant be invited to lecture in
this city. Mrs Johnson stated that
Dr Jones had written to Mrs Chant,
inviting her to come, and offering
the use of the Unitarian Church;
but at that time an answer had
not been received, and therefore no
formal action was taken.
Mrs Johnson was asked to give a report
of the proceedings of the National Con-
vention recently held in Washington.
She stated that splendid addresses
were made; that Mrs Stantons election
as President gave general satisfaction;
that it was the decision of the Conven-
tion that all suffrage work for the
season be concentrated on South
Dakota. A speech made in favor of plac-
ing suffrage on an educational basis
was enthusiastically received. This
last point was taken up in the meeting
and discussed at some length; the gener-
al opinion being that the ignorant vote
of both sexes should be eliminated.
Mrs Avery moved that the Sec'y should
write to Dr Clokey for a copy of this lecture
delivered before the Assoc November 1st
Seconded, and carried.
