144 See that itt is all reasonably well dreind then putt into a cleane Marble mortar and pound itt well therein; Then streine itt very hard through a Canvas & put the strenineing into a platter & putt thereto as much powderd Sugar as aforesaid Juice doth weigh mixe them well together, & upon a Chafingdish of coles lett them boyle very Easily untill they be brought into the forme of a thick sirrupp Then keep itt in a Gally pott or Gally glasse for your use. 146 Pick them all cleane; take the piths out of the rootes and wash them very cleane in Water, then boile them in 3 gallons of cleane water untill one Gallon be con= sumed then streine it through an hare seive and then put the Liquor to the [ttine] gaind and putt in these drie drugges Nuttmegs Cinnamon ounce 1 Ginger Pepper calamus, gallingall Bayberries an half ounce℥ S.B. An= nisseeds glycoriz and dramsʒ iii french barley cockfear iii Rainsons of the sonne stoned damase prunes an[ li. fluid ouncef℥ ] slice thinne your Nuttmegs Cinnamon, ginger Callamus Gallingall and Glycoriz. beate or bruise the pepper Bayberries and Annisseeds, gross=ly Then boile againe all those druggs in the said Liquoris untill one third part be boiled away, then streine it and putt it in an earthen pipkin fitting for the Quantity and soo sett itt to the fire againe and then putt in Ruburbe and againe an ounceʒ i sene ounceʒ ii let it boile softly 3 or 4 [wames] then take itt from the fire and let it stand to keepe in that pipkin and let the Rhubarb sene, and Agaric, remaine therein and for your drink is fully made

147 In stead of makeing it this way for the manner of a purge you must boile the herbes as you doe hops: for Beer and when they are coole againe putt in 2 spices, and put them alltogether in a bagge and let it hang in a vessell of Beer with a weight in it and after 10 or 12 dayes steeping in the Beer, drink of itt a good draght in thye Morneing You must streine your herbes and let them be cold ere you putt in your spites

For the shakeing of the hands or heads &c

Take thye pure pure blew flowers of Lavender Cynamon Nuttmeggs & Cloues and make them into powder & mixe them take a Quantity there of euery morneing in the distilled water of Lavender Itt putts away the passions of the heart thye giddiness of the head, & shakeing of thye Members. A conserue of the flowers work works thye same effect

Falling sickness to cure

Take the Secondine of a Woman thyat is healthfull & of a good complexion of her first child; if it bee a Boy for a woman; but if the patient be a Man; then of a female child, wash the same in Peony water, after drye it in Oven and make powder thereof the dose is a dramm in black cherry water fasting vse it for thirty dayes together Approved

Vnderstand; or the Vitall Spiritts to strengthen

TakeRp a spoonfull of the powder of the hert Parris, or of the Berries thereof attonce drunk fasting for one & twenty dayes together: Those Mirobalanes which are called Embellici; purge corrupt flegme out of thye head & strengthen the Vitall Spiritts

Vomitting of blood to stay TakeRp of the seeds; The Iuices of Sage drunk with honey stayes it incontinently

Vrine hott to, to coole TakeRp of the seeds of Cucumber, Citrons, [Gewords] Mellons Mallows, Purslane and white poppy of Each a dram of thye fflowers of Cammock or Restharrow & of Violetts Bole armoneack [spodiuiu] Gum Arabick, & Gumdragonce, of each 6 drams sugar the weight of all the rest, make them all into fine powder, and take thereof in posset drink

For a Consumption

Take the topps or flowers of Rosemary flowers of Burage, Buglas Marigolds & red roses the leaves of red sage violet; cinquefoyle Lunge wort Liverwort, Marioram, water cresses scurvy grass, Ribwort, red comfrey, and red nettle topps of each one handfull; The roots & seeds of ffennell, and of Peony; of each once ounce; calves feet blanched one paire; an old red Cock prepared, with his stones & feet, the knockle of thye Legg, and a cragg end of a neck of Mutton; break thye bones of the flesh; wash; swing, dry, and bruise the herbls; and beat the seeds, boile them all in 5 gallons of running water unto thye halfe, then add unto the strained Liquor thereof, browne sugar candys in powder, one pound; large Mace; white pepper, graines of paradise, all finely beaten of

150 Each a quarter of an ounce, boyle them a pretty whie together, then reserve it in some cleane vessell, And lett your take thereof warme a Quarter of a pinte att once in 2 hourse; The sirk shall need noo other sustenance, And in short space by the blessing of God the party shall recover strength Approved. Swelling to Asswage Take horse doung new made and unsalted swines grease of each like weight, mix them well then putt them into a new Pipkin & boyle them together att a gentle fire with constant stirring till it become like pap this being applyed hott, asswageth any swell ing though itt bee Hydropicall or Cachecticall It likewise asswageth paine even unto admiration. It likewise cureth any bruise of all as allsoo straines of teh Joints, ass: swageth paines of the Gout, Aches of your Joynt, running Goutes; herewith one Mr Browne was cured of a Tumor in scroto, being swoln to the bigness of a Childs head & discoloured allmost as black as pitch. Most approved A certaine Maide whose Legg was swoln as bigg as her middle was cured with the aforesaid remedy as alsoe one Matthew Chubb was crued of a great 160 Swellling in his hand as alsoe of the Goute in his great Toe with any others as was witnessed by Mr Dr Bonham. Spotts of small Pocks to take away Take 6 ounces of bitter Almonds blaunch and stamp them small, then putt them into a good pint of Creame, wring thereinto the Juyce of a good Lemmon, boyle them gently to any oyly subtance; reserve the same and annoynt the face and hands. Lungs suffocated to help Take 2 handfulls of horehound, one of hysope one ounce of sliced Licorice 14 figgs cutt in piece 20 Raisons of the sunn stoned, boyle these in a Gallon of stale Ale into the halfe, then straine itt without pressing; Add until the strained Licour one pound weight of purified honey; boyle them together a little then reserve itt, and let the patient drink there first & last.
