162 Boyle these in a Gallon of Wort, and put itt in when you should put in your Hopps, and lett itt boyle as long, as your hopps doe use to boile or put that in a Gallon of Strong Ale, & lett itt boyle untill itt come to a pottle & giue the Child a Small Quantity, both att morn ing & Night; and make an Oyntment of all these herbes, in boyling them in May butter or otherwise fresh butter, annoynting the Child twice a day by the fire, all over the Flanck and Belly. Take a Gallon of New milk, and put it the Cragg end of two necks of Mutton, cutt of all the fatt, and let; and let then; seeth; then scumm them cleane; and put in an Ounce and half of Cinamon findly powdered, & let itt boile half away; and take of itt a draught morneing and Night when you goe to bed.

Take a Quart of Ale and boile itt as you doe for Mace Ale, then take hassell Nutts and blanch them as doe Almonds, then beate them with some of the Ale & thicken the Ale with it as thick as you

163 Would make itt with an Egg, and drink a good draught of itt in the morneing & in the Afternoone

A Medicine for the Tooth Ach Cos: si:

One Clove of Garlick beaten small, half a spoonfull of water put to itt in the beating then straine, and not wring itt hard, and warme half a spoonfull, something more then Milk warme; then lye on the Aching side and putt; 4 or 5c; drops into the contrary side & Eare; , then stopp the Eare with black wool, and soe lye half an houre, then hold hard your Eare, soe that if any water be in itt, may come out of itt, then dry itt and stopp itt with fresh Buttter black Wool.

To take away the Itch

Take a penniworth of Sallett Oyle; a half penni worth of the flower of Brimstone, and a half penniworth of Ginger; and beat them soe well together; till they come to an Oyle, then annoint the place, all over at night by a warme fire, when you doe this put on a cleane shift, & shift you not a fortnith after, itt will cure if you anoint onely the Joints itt will serve 80

For the Collick Take Elderne Budds, dry them in the Sunn then beat them into powder take allmost a spoonful of itt in White wine

For the Spleen Take the seeds of Ash Keyes drye them before the fire, and then beate them to powder putt a spoonfull of the powder into a draught of white wine, and drink itt just before you goe to bed, and as much in the morneing before you rise two hours. Probat The Lady Aberganeng

For to much Boyle knottgrass & Shepherds purse in floten milk then with the Milk make Rice pottage and eat itt, if in Extremity boyle Rice in Allegant soe thick that you may spend itt on a peece of New Lockeram and bind itt on the navill.

165 An approued Medicine for one that cannot make water but in great paine Spread uppon sheeps Leather black sope and strew uppon itt the powder of Saffron and lay itt to the Navill and itt will speedily help

For a Tetter riseing in the Face Take peach Leaves stamp & straine them with the Juce annoint the tetter and heale it. Probat

A medicine for the Stich and windie Stomacks Take young Mints and putt them in a Dish and sett them in an Oven and drying itt to powder, keep itt close in a box, till it be used when you have cause to use itt; put a spoon= full in your Broth or Eggs 81

For a Rupture Take Bennett, crows foot, knott grass polopodie of an old Oak take the Juice of those herbes either in bear or broath a spoonfull att once for a week either morneing or even ing, the Rupture must be up when you give itt, you must wear a truss for to keep it upp

For the pallit of the Mouth

Take the Mastick, honey, wheat flower and Rock Allome beaten to powder, mingle them well together then take some of itt on a knife point and lay itt on your tongue and let it dissolve; doe this often. In case you cannot take the honey, make 2 baggs of the biggness of the Palme of your hand and & putt into them on handfull of Cumminseed & good Nuttmegg these things must be first beaten well in a pewtwe dish, over Coales and putt into a linnen bagg, when they are a warme as you can endure them then lay one of them to the mould of your head, and the other to the Nape of your neck as often as they coole heate them againe and apply them as before 167 The Lady Brooks perfect Medicine for the Yellow or Black Jaundies & the Collick in the Stomack and for the Ague giveing 4 spoonfulls thereof with as much Methredate as a Nuttmegg, before the fitt swealing after itt,

Take a peck of snails in their shells wash them in a Great bowle of Beer then make the hearth very cleane and pour upon itt half a bushell of Charcoales and set them on fire and when they are kindled then with a shovell make a greate hole in the midst of them before you put them in the fire draine, the drink from the dodmen, then pour the snailes shells and all and scatter of the live coales amongst them, and soe let them roast soe long as you heare them make any noise then take them out, and with a knife and a coarse cloath pick and wipe them from all their green froath very cleane, then bruise them in a stone Mortar, and beeate them to peice, shells and all, Take alsoe a Quart of Earth wormes slitt and scour them with salt very well twice over, then wash them and put them in a stone mortar, and beat them well, then you must make the pott very cleane, upon which you sett the Limbeck, or still and take handfulls of Angelica and lay itt on the bottome of the

168 And 2 handfulls of Salendine, lay upon that; put in 2 Quarts of rosemary flowers at the Least; alsoe bearsfoot; agremony, Red dark roots, the bark of Barbary tree and Wood sorrell, and Bettony, of each 2 hand fulls and half a handfull Rue fenni greek Turmerack of each an ounce well beaten then lay the snailes and wormes upon the topp of all these herbes pourein 5 gallons of your strongest Ale; then cover the pott & let itt stand all night in the place where you mean to put your fire under itt and in the morneing, you must put in 2 ounce of Cloves beaten to powder, and of Saffron beaten to powder the weight of 2s6d and of very good harts horne grated or filed to powder before itt be weighed the weight of 8 ounces you must not stirr itt after, you haue put in; the harts horne for feare itt should sink down to the bottome then set itt upon your Limbeck and stop itt fast down with a peele of Rie dough and [soe] receiue your water in pints as you doe any other water you may receiue 6 partes or some what more the first is the strongest and must be kept by itt self and soe by degrees; soe the small may be made better by some of the strongest when it is used for the [Jaundies] you must take 2 spoonfulls of this in a Glass of ordinary beer 169 An hour before each meal for fiue dayes together and afterwards less and more seldome once a day or once in 2 or 3 dayes as you find your self

For a soare Breast

Take Creame, grated, bread, Redrose leaues boile itt to a Poultess, when its boiled put in it a peice of deer suett, then spread itt upon a Cloath and lay itt to the Soare breast; if itt will break itt; will break itt and heal itt; if itt not itt will take away the swelling. Probat: Mrs Hone

For a Breast wherein the Milk is wharled & knotted Take Linseed oyle Aqua Vitae, and warme itt bath the breast with itt, and breake the wharles easily with your finger morneing and evening then take a little Bees wax and scrape itt[ thinne] and a little honey, and aqua vitae & melt them well together; then put in some linseed oyle; then take a new peice Lockram and cutt a hole for the nipple & dipp the lockram in itt, & spread itt and strew a little gross, & soe apply itt warm to the breast. To distill a most Excellent Water called Cherry water which is very Cordiall and Soveraine against Melancholy

First take 4 pounds of Cherries 4 pintes of Clarett wine 2 ounces of Cinnamon 2 Nuttmeggs, a handful of Balme, steep all those together in an Earthen pott all night, and [] next day putt them into an Ordinary still and [] distill them, then put into your glasses of water to [] quart of Water, a quarter of a pound of white Sugar candy and a little musk of Amber[] in a fine linnen Ragg & hang itt with a [] about your glass neik in your water, & afterwards sunn itt well as you doo your other distilled Waters.
