A white Losing for Ruhm Dr Bates

i0 Poppy Heads a sponful of sweet Fennel seed boyle thes
in a quart of water to a pint then strain it take 2 ounces of
white Poppy seed beat them with the Liquor til you have
got out all the strength adde to the infusion a stick of
Licorish 2 pound of suger Double refind boyle it to a can
dry drop it on plates

To make Boyld Conserve of Red roses for Ruhm & Consumption
halfe a pound of the best budds clipt form the whites a pound &
a halfe of loaf suger beat them very fine set thes by then take
halfe a pint of spring water or red rose water set it on the
fire in a quart skillet then put into it as many rose leaves
with the whites as you can cram into the skillet put but
a little fire least it burne then stir the leaves down now &
then till they are very white then strain them & put in some
ny more so doe three times euery staining they will looke
lesse white then other the last time put in your chpt
Budds let them be tender then strain them & beat them till
they be as fine as papp & while the Liquor is hott put in
the suger into the skillet & put in your roses when they
are fine stir them very well to make the suger melt
then take them ofe before it boyle & stir them well tel
all the lumps both of the suger & roses be desolved pot it up
it will have an Ice candy which will keep it all the yeare it is
best for consumptions wher they are apt to loseneses
