Londen ffebruary 25th 1692.

The King was a Long time In Cornwall on Thursday Evening [20] where divers Affairs of Consequence was before their Consi deracion especially the Concern of the going of the Turkey ffleet upon some Advices that are come of the ffrench Mouements to reinforce the Thoulon Squadron and we must not pretend to give the result

The Judges were called in & had a Charge given them to regulate them selves upon their Severall Circuits which I am told was very positive to put the Lawes in Execucion against all papists Iacobites and other disturbers of the peace of the Kingdom

The Sherriffs of London haue signifyed that they will proceed to an Eleccion of a member of parliament in place of Sir William Turmur deceased on next Thursday at Guildhall

I hear Mr Adam Banks dra= =per In Wattling street hath been tryed and Convicted this sessions for disperting a sham Speech of the Kings which the Iacobites had formed and printed to ridicule the Government

French Shipps Convoyed by privatiers towards Norway and engaged with them for a whole Afternoon till night parted them and designed to attack them early In the Morning but ffound that they had run themselves all on shoar where the greatest part of them will be Lost

The house of Commons were yesterday from 2 till 6 in the Evening ~ debating the Irish affair they having first read severall sheets of paper which Sir ffrancis Brewster and others had delive red to the house and resolved that upon the Informacion given to this house it doth appear that there hath been great Abuses and Mismanagement in the Af fairs of Ireland and resolved that an Address be presented to his Maiestie to Certfy the said Abuses.

Weymouth the 22 Inst on ~ Munday last came in here the Grafton Sloop & Basing Privatteer who on Sunday mett near La Hogue 8 ffrench: Merchant ~ Shipps one Carrying 26 another 8 Guns whome they fought above 2 houres & att last drove them a shore

Yesterday morning one Mr Cook Minister of Islington was found dead near Black ffryars Staires his head much bruised his Tongue hanging out of his Mouth by which 'tis Concluded hee was Murthered

The aforesaid papers reflected on his Exelencyes severity alsoe on the Lord Coningsby & verye heard on Mr Culliford & the latter being not in the house for that they could not find him to give him a Summons the debate run high to Expell him & Considering they ought to doe that Iustice to a Member as first to heare him before they proceed in such a Method they went off from that Poynt the Lord Coningsby being in his place spake to several heads charged vpon him but tis said his Lordshipp owning a seperate Article Agred to the Irish some layd great hold of itt & Continued the debate of this matter til 6 in the Evening & att last came to the resolucion aforemencioned

& Robbed haveing noe money h in his ~~ pockets but one halfe penney

Sir William Petty's Widdow was lately married to Sir Thomas: Crafton an Irish Gentleman

yesterday the king Dined atthe Lord Newbury's and was for some time afterwards in the treasury Office after which he assisted in a Committe of Councill at the Lord Nottingham's office

We hear all the fforeign fforces will be sent out of England

Its said that Admirall Russell will lay down his place of Treasurer of the Navy & that it will bee given to Sir Edward Seymour

Sir Nicholas Butler wee heare will bee made one of the Comissioners of the Customes which place hee had in the Reigne of the late King James & was one of his privy Councell

Captain Cook & Captain Ash who were lately taken into Custody for Impresing men & sending them to fflanders were Yesterday Bayled before the Lord Cheife Justice who told them that what they had done was worse then Robbing on the Highway & they are bound over to Answeare the same the next sessions att the Old Bayly.

Sir Thomas Stamp Sir William Ashurst & the present Lord Maior are the Candidates to Succeed Sir William Turner as Burges in Parliament for this Citty

The Papers delivered Yesterday to the house of Commons by Sir ffrancis Brewster &c contained in Substance (vizt) the selling forfeited ^lands att the 24th parte of the value to Iudges &c in Trust for persons vnknown for protecting the Irish whereby the Protestants could not sue for theire debts, for Imbezelling the the Publick venues & stores for not paying the Army for proroguing the Parliament in Ireland before they could redress greviences for mismanaging the Treasurey & other heads too long to bee here inserted

house of Commons relateing to Ireland to Attend next Tuesday & doe the same .. att theire Barr at which time they will take itt vpon Oath = This day the house of Commons read a 2d time & Comitted a Bill for the review of the Poll They alsoe took the Affaire of the East India Company into Consideracion & resolved that an humble Address bee presented to the King if he plesed after notice given to the Company to dislove the same att the Expiracion of 3 Yeares according as it is limited = Last night advice was brought to Court that 2 of our Privatteers meeting with 6 English Merchant Shipps were all laden with Corne from Sussex & bound for ffrance have brought them into the River = k fforraigne Lettrs of the 3d of March say that the ffrench: Embassador has presented the Grand Signior with a summe of money alsoe 430 officers 60 Bombardiers with severall Enginers & ffire Masters The ffrench are resolved to beseige Avignon Vigon^ - before the Savoyerds can take the feild & after that Carry no Accin in fflanders
