London ffebruary: 28th 1692 ~

The Lord Mohun having peti cioned the house of peers touching an Appeall of Murther from mrs Mumford it was ordered to be considered on thursffryday

His Maiesties Iourney to Chatham and Tillbury ffort is deferred for some daies and we hear that great Alteracions will be made at court before his departure

yesterday about 100 young men came to Town from Kent and places adiacent to List themselves as Voluntiers In his Maiesties service

We hear that 2 privatiers of 34 guns each are now on the stocks and will be Launched in a short time

Pill near Bristoll ffebruary 25th a dutch Caper hath brought in here a ffrench ship of 90 Tunns Laden with Linnen Cloath bound for Ireland

Penzance in Cornwall ffebruary 22d yesterday a fflushing priva tier came in here and brought in with her a small ffrench prize pri =vatier of 8 guns which she took near the Lands end

By an Express Command from the King Last week to the Commissio ners of the Generall post office Mr Leison Comptroller of the fforreign office is Laid aside and I hear Mr Tredenham hath or is to haue the Said place and that there will be a further reform

There is a design to re move the Kings Bench office from the Temple to Grays Inn or thereabouts

yesterday the house of Commons heard had a Lamentable Complaint made to them about the Irregular Impressing of the Kings subiects and some without Authority hurryed them to the Tower where the officers of the Armey came and bought them for recruits for fflanders and some of them were sufficient house sweepes others Appren tices ffootmen &c and that there were divers houses under the provost Marshall which they hurryed thise poor wretches to where they put them into Irons, Laid them on the Boards and then either fforced them to give Money for theire Redempcion or sold them for 5s or 10s a head

upon which a messenger was oirdered to bring one Clark Deputy Marshall with his prisoners to the house and before they arose he with 12 men Chained together came before this house and the matter being examined into 9 of the men were found to be Impressed and Barbarously used and they being Called to the Barr their Armes were all taken off in the house and they sett at Liberty and War rants are sent out after others detained in the same manner - 5 men of warr & 3 ffireshipps which sayled Last week out of the Downs were seen Last saturday on the back of the Goodwins

This day the Commons read a 3d time and passed a Bill to prevent false and double returns In parliament and another to make Salt water - afterwards severall pressmasters were examined and referred to the Law to be punished and Captain Winter of white ffryers was referred to the Lord Chief Iustice the House was afterwards in a Grand Committee for encouraging privatiers and the same to be reported on Thursday - ordered that the Last Supply Bill being the review of the poll be considered in a grand Committee on ffryday - The Lords haue been all this day examining the Affairs of Ireland and there being more witnesses they are to be heard to Morow at 1 a Clock
