That is really interesting to know! What I'm interested in looking at this deed is that it is dated after the dedication of Mount Auburn Cemetery. That is probably the reason for the language choices you noticed, is that this agreement was known t...

C. Bolles: Bottom of column 3. It's definitely "Bolles" and there is a Charles Bolles in lot 230 (died: 1854) who would be a good match for this signature.

Note: 2 pages forward it spells out the transaction as 1 rood, 13 rods and 8/10 rods There are 40 rods per rood. So this area is really 1.35 roods about 1/3 acre - so the $420 actually makes sense!

I agree 100% with your transcription, but I am puzzled by the math: 1 rood=1/4 acre or 11000 sq. ft. I read the second part as a parcel 13 rods x 8.1 rods = 28668 sq. ft. The total parcel would seem to be 0.9 acres. We would expect the cost ...

The word that was transcribed as "lower" can't be. Compare other "l"s [lower?] on the page. I'm thinking theis is an expense for the Washington Tower and my guess is the the questioned word is "tower".
