Dear Mrs. Graudy:

Here is your boy again. I hope none the worse for wear. We have had a real nice visit with him, but after thinking the whole situation over I do not think it best to keep him any longer. The responsibility just now is really more than I feel equal too as I'm so very nerveous (?) and you know something of what it means to get a boy ready for school every morning and have a lunch basket ready besides the other

numerous tasks around a farm house every morning, and I know my condition this winter will not be very encouraging or stand very much extra work. Maura isn't really equal to it either and I do not want her to have any added responsibility as she has enough now. So I thought it wouldn't be wise to buy books here for, perhaps, a few weeks that we could keep him and I know he ought to start to school right in the beginning of the term. I

We have been busy canning fruit. Have 11 quarts of quince and apple preserves and 13 quarts of grapes, 9 quarts of peaches for our labor yesterday afternoon and this morning. We have also been getting out some grapes for raisins as we hope to have raisins enough for our own use this winter.

We have a nice cow now. She is a decided improvement on the one we sold, but I guess

The Hillis Sunday afternoon

Dear Mrs. Grandy:

This is a lazy afternoon so while the other members of this household are lounging around, will write to you. Paul came home last night. He and Jack have had a stroll over the hills, not our trail tho. Guess I'll have to send Jack home as Jessi & Harry feel as tho their expenses this winter will be heavy enough and can't assume any additional responsibility or incumberance. He has had a nice visit and dosent (?) want to go yet. I will put him on the car Wednesday morning at 8 A.M. in care of
