Sunday Nite 9:30

Dearest Mumsie & Daddie:

Just a line before I go to bed. Listening to "Tuck'n in Hour" K.G.E.R. put on by the Calvary Baptist Church here in Long Beach.

Yesterday worked until the p.m. was mostly gone. Looked into Kresses, but "shoe shine" & Van de Kamps bread & got home at 3:45 Then vacuumed & dusted & talked with Mrs. Marshall, (landlady), her eye bothering her, hole head & face sore & full of pain. Said the aparment above George was to be vacant about the 15th & wanted to know if we'd like it, $45.00 per mo! Has [underlined: 2 ]bedrooms & I suppose other rooms a little larger than these. Mrs. M. said she had hoped to move up there but their doctor had said no to both of them going up there now. M.M. has heart trouble.

Would have called you today & "charged it to our rent" had Mrs. M. not been sick. If I had gone to another telephone, would have had to reverse the 25, [cent mark], & I didn't want to do that. We had a little over a $ to spend last night for eats & have to have enuf (enough) for car fare. Have to cash a check tomorrow. I cash them at the shoe store or Jack at the bank or office.

Oh, on Friday, met Gladys Whitcomb on

the street on my way back from the bank. Went up to her house, (apartment), that nite. Eleanor didn't know or seem to remember me. Anyway, her main thot was her boyfriend & she was busy getting the last hair in place. Gladys has a nice large place upstairs in a 4 apartment bldg. She rents her house in North Long Beach, (8 mi. out), between Atlantic & Cherry, someplace not far from that park where we ate our lunch once, remember? She asked about several Monrovians I didn't know very well. I said she should have gone up on Monrovia Day. Gladys works across the street from me. Been there about 5 or 6 years, a jewelry & optical place. Guess she has several boyfriends, as usual.

Intended going to church this am. but wanted to get my meatloaf made & summer squash fixed & some other things done before finishing dressing & then it was 15 to 11 & knew I could make it without being at least 10 min late so didn't go.

Can't think of anything else now other than the world news, so will say nity nite.

Trust you are feeling ok. So until I see you, don't work too hard.

Much love,

Alice.
