Sunday afternoon 4/13

My dear ones:

Well, how are you all any how? Enjoying the glorious sun kissed California. I know am getting so anxious to see you all and think, sometimes, I never can stand it another day. The girls are rather tired of this country too and every night, Dora asks me to go to Calif. the next day. Do you know I have been thinking of staying here till fall if I can get some work to do, but can't

loaf all summer. I want to stay any how till the estate is settled up. They claim Walter's father gave $700 but, found out it was only $500. You know Edith, if Walter keeps quiet and doesn't tell them to take it out of his share, they can't do it and I would get every cent of the 1/4 share. I won't write and tell him to keep quiet as I don't want anything to show up in black and white that I have said but, I think it is up to him to keep, [mum ?], don't you? The rest of the boys have had that much, as his father gave Bert a lot and made the first payment on his house. Besides, helping him all the time, [also ?], I found a checkbook, (Bert's wife), with a stub showing where Mrs. Sample had given Irvin, the single one, $200.00 at one time, since the father's death. I don't like to take what isn't coming to me, legally, but I don't

think it is up to me to tell them to take it out. Hope to get it settled this month or next. I was in Pitts. one week. Had such a nice visit, but it makes me heartsick to see them. They are just heartbroken. Aunt Laura wanted us to stay longer as she said Uncle Tim had talked and laughed more while we were there than the whole year since Thomas' death. They were so, [lovely ?]. They couldn't stay in the house the evening we left. Get a letter from Aunt Laura every few days saying she is looking for us everyday to come back. Uncle Tim

has failed terribly. Indeed, Edith, he totters when he walks and is so stooped. He says his life is broken and he is too old to mend. I talked Calif. till I was black in the face and he is so anxious to go out there. I told him it would add 10 years to his life and he said he would love to go if it would as he would love to stay with his family a while longer. Aunt Laura is so worried about him. Got a letter from Maude saying Joe was talking of going East, [all the long ?], but she wasn't saying anything, just letting him do as he wants to. She says Joe doesn't want to come on account of the breaking away again. Aunt Laura

had a little hat fixed up for Evelyn. Sent it to her last week and it surely is a cute hat. Evelyn has been up at Ella's for two weeks and won't come home. She is so much company for Mary, (Ella's girl), and they say the 2 are less trouble than Mary alone. They have a nice big home, big porch and swing. Davis and I were at Sunday School, stayed for church, and Davis went to Junior League this afternoon. Mama and I went to Nazarene Church to hear, [Dick?], Albright preach. He was the evangelist here a year ago. His sermons were fine. I played for moving picture company one night, not long ago, and wanted me Friday, but couldn't go. Came yesterday for me to play for dance. Said they would give me $3.00 just for last evening, but I was in Sebring, O[hio]. Went up in morning. Back last night.

Am going to begin taking pipe organ lessons next week. Our church organ is grand. Next Sunday night, am going to sing in
