I have been waiting patiently to hear from you but am going to write again. This is the third letter. I rec'd one from Mother, a few days ago, saying you were still [gaming?] and Laura had gone home, but for Mother's letter, I should be dreadfully worried

Father did not give me a thing. but my sweetheart gave me a beautiful red silk umbrella, two gold hat pins, a elegant purse + card case mounted in sterling silver with my full name in gilt in leather and a, [sterling?], manicure set of seven pieces on a star, [tray?], with my monogram on each piece, a fancy bottle of perfume. Don't you think he gave me enough? The only presents I gave was to him + I felt as though I had to for he is always giving me something. So I gave him an umbrella + cane + gloves, that I am all three fine + [lovely way?] me thinks. But I prize my odd pin stick that my dear toot gave me more than anything. father is going marry, but I am doing my best to break him up + pray that I may succeed. don't you? I presume Ma told you about it? Now, dear, write me at once for I am worried about you. I wish you a very Happy New Year and all health + happiness with it, as well as prosperity.
