My dear friend:

Your lovely letter received and I will begin by answering your questions. Mr. M. stayed with a colored employee in the house Monday night. They have been there all week. The man makes the fires etc. William and Bella left Monday afternoon, of course. All my things were left, as I left them. [?Rusty] was taken quite unbeknown to, [me?], to Mrs., [Logan's] Sunday afternoon. The canned fruits I sent to Mrs. Bowen. Mr. M. had my trunks and several pieces of furniture sent

to, [?Glads], Monday morning, also, [sic]. I did not know it until yesterday, for I did not know where he had decided to go. I have not been to the rooms yet. I went with Mrs. Bowen to, [407 ?], Lake yesterday afternoon. He came in. The colored man was there. Mrs. Bowen passed him without speaking and went out on the porch, waiting for me as I had to stop to speak to him. I hope for the summer, at least, to be away nearly all the time and when fall comes, I can tell better what to do, perhaps. As life, as nothing in it for me, anyway. One trial more or less don't matter, if I can avoid being with or seeing much of that man. I am still at Mrs. Bowens and, as the upstairs girl leaves today, I may be of some service to her, for which I am very glad. I am going to the "storage rooms" at the, [?Glads}, tomorrow to look

around and show myself. I shall not attempt to hang draperies or work, as I have always done because, anyway, it is not worthwhile to do so near spring and summer and because I hope the Lord will open a path for me to be away all summer. I don't feel I can get through the winter if I do not get a breathing spell. The sweet words Mrs. Henry wrote are deeply appreciated and I will write her a little note of thanks. You have been a help and comfort to me ever since I knew you and you know me enough to feel my troubles were not imaginary! Think what a dear, helpful friend you have been. Monday seems like
