My dear sister, [E?],dith:

It has been quite awhile since I have written you a letter, but we get to hear from one another just as often, I guess. Today is New Years Day and what a beautiful one it has been. We have a nice snow on the ground and there is a good many, [?], and

Dear Sister:

I got your X-mas present and I think it a very appropriate one and beautiful. One thinks you were wise in making such a solution. Sadie is very much pleased with it and said for me to tell you for her that she is very sorry that she didn't have something for you. She thinks it is just lovely. Edith, you mustn't expect much from her for she hasn't been working steady for a long time until a few week ago and now

expects to be laid off again since holidays are over. I am very sorry for my part too. In fact, ashamed of myself for not sending you something for X-mas. I priced their souvenir teaspoons and, the kind I wanted, was from $2.75 to $3.00 and that was more than I could afford. all. Sadie gave me a bountiful gold mounted umbrella with my initials on it and a pair of kid gloves, some kerchiefs and cologne. To her Ma, a nice silk hankerchief with my initial and, so you see, I done better than expected to. X-mas was my day off and I enjoyed it very much. Today, I am on duty. Will be off on Friday again. Ma and Jennie were well, Sunday, when I was at home. I am well and fat. Don't get many fires?

Edith, I hope you have been remembered with X-mas presents as well as you did us by some kindhearted friends. But don't think we have forgotten you, for we haven't by any means. I hope someday to be more able to remember you with tokens than now. I guess it must have been K. that sent you that package, for it wasn't us. I haven't seen Katie for a long time but I hear that she is dressing lovely. Edith, I must close and go to bed. Hoping you had a merry X-mas and wishing with a Happy New Year! And many thanks for the presents from Sadie and I both. As ever your loving Broe, Archie.
