I will be more prompt in the future about writing. Jennie

Jersey Shore, Pa Feb 1st, 1893

My dear friend Edith:

I really do wish you a happy New Year if I am late. I could not write sooner on account of my son's illness. He is better now, had pneumonia gets well very slowly. I know how busy you are so I will excuse you. I wonder where you are now. It must be terrible to suffer so much physically, as well as mentaly. I am sorry you can not visit me sooner

but I suppose I must wait. You know good things come slow and I am sure our visit will be better a little farther on. I may be able to make it more pleasant. I am to have a new horse and buggy this coming summer, won't we ride though? You are very welcome to the apples. Here are some more. Help yourself. How will you have the few lbs, dried or green? think that. I upset the lamp in my room. It is a large room, came near burning up, my clothes caught fire. One of the clerks came up and helped put it out or every stitch of clothes would have burned off of me. Wouldn't I have been a sight, phew! Had to get a new carpet, have the room repapered, in fact, clean house in the winter time, but it is over now. How is Aunt Peggy getting along by this time, and Dr Shields, since a handsomer man, as a house physician, has arrived to stay. Hope his suffering does not come anyway's near

Give him my regards & sympathy.

A spasamodic attack. Tell Miss Crouch she owes me a letter if she has not marked me off her books. If you were here, we would have a sleigh ride tomorrow. We have good sleighing now. There was lovely skating this winter. Ice is as clear as crystal; you miss lots of pleasure while you're in the hospital, bu,t perhaps, you will make up for it after awhile, hope so. Anyway, give my love to Miss Barnett, Miss Herrington, Rock Barrat. Is Mrs Switzer still there? Did she get real well? Is Miss Miller still assistant? Tell me all the news. It does interest me to hear of them all, and do write to me soon. With love, I am as ever your friend,

Jennie Scarborough Write soon.
