Jersey Shore March 24th, 1893

Dear friend Edith:

It has been some time since I received your most welcomed letter. It arrived the morning of the funeral of my uncle. A few days after I was called to the bedside of another uncle that was very sick and is not well yet. Then I came home and my mother-in-law was, here, visiting. She was, [sideways], at a temperance lecture last night. The boys have followed it up this morning in another church. It was grand. Best I ever heard. Give my regards to all the girls I know and remembrance to Dr. Shields. I know he will be pleased. You write sooner than before I will and sooner. My brother was hurt again this winter. Has not worked any for 3 months. Is getting well though. Write soon. As ever, your friend Jennie Scarborough

very sick for a week or more and next, my sister. I think that is the extent of my calamaties since you last heard from me. But I have just been homesick to see you all for two days. it has been impossible to get the hospital and all my acquaintances out off my mind. So I thought if I ever wanted any more peace of mind, I had better write and relieve myself. How I should have liked to have finished my course there? They may have thought otherwise, but such was, [sideways at top]. Tell Miss Crouch I am still living. Should be pleased to have her answer my last letter.

It is a blessing. They have an older daughter. She will be a second mother to the little ones. May God bless them and comfort them ever. I am glad you like private duty so well. It will make your work more pleasanter. No, I was not surprised at all for there were very many things connected

with hospital life that were decidedly unpleasant and very unwhole, some especially for the younger students. I am very sorry for Miss Harrington. It is awful to have to be sick there, but I suppose she is better, ere this hope so any way. Miss, [Lindley?], will know more than Miss Wright if she stays until she graduates. I suppose,Miss Hall, we will never see again. We will try to have a good time when you come to visit me. We think of going to the World's Fair. Don't know what month, though, but we can arrange your visit any way. Think I should like to see Dr Shields, "if he is handsomer than he needs to be." How does he and Miss Colyer get along nowadays? Write soon and tell me all the news about every one I know. I attend
