Dear friend Edith:

It has been
some time since I received
your most welcomed letter.
It arrived the morning of
the funeral of my uncle.
A few days after I was
called to the bedside of
another uncle that was
very sick and is not
well yet. Then I came home
and my mother-in-law
was, here, visiting. She was,
[sideways],
at a temperance lecture
last night. The boys
have followed it up this
morning in another
church. It was grand.
Best I ever heard. Give
my regards to all the
girls I know and
remembrance to Dr.
Shields. I know he will
be pleased. You
write sooner than
before I will and
sooner. My brother
was hurt again
this winter. Has not
worked any for 3
months. Is getting
well though. Write
soon. As ever,
your friend
