Miss Alice Grandy
"Laughing Brown Eyes"
Dear Alice: Is my letter done yet? I have not seen it yet and now, I am going away. You will have to mail it right away if I am to get it at all.
So, I'm not going overseas yet for a few weeks, but I'm on my way. I expect to start next week, but will go back East to Cornell University for a little more training. When I come out of that, I expect to be wearing gold bars. At least, that is what I am being sent there for.

Don't tell the photographers at the School anything about this for about a week for it must not be told there till after I am gone.
I wish I could stop off and tell you all good bye, for I love my little girls, you, three more than any children I know. So you know how much I wish I could come.
We are all shut up here. I have not been off the island for three weeks now. But we do not have the Spanish Influenza here.
I hope that Helen is getting well fast now and that none of the rest of you get it.
Now, you had better hurry up my letter.
