Wed. P.M. Aug 5th

Dearest Sis n' [and] Folks. Your birthday p'ckg [package] arrived about 10:00 AM today. I was down in the basement laundry when Muffin barked long & loud & it was the postman. The laundry room is almost under us: convenient, but we get all the odors, so our apt. [apartment] stinks most of the time. Just opened it to see it was "perishable," but haven't unwrapped the gifts yet. Coop goes down "the chain" tomorrow until Sun. nite [night], so I'll have my birthday gifts by myself. The the Army Maj. [Major] & wife have invited me to their quarters for Fri. nite [Friday night] dinner. Wea. [Weather] cool & cloudy. Wish it would rain more. Love to all. Muffin, [Myra?] & Hal
