again, otherwise ye cannot see the
{Kingdom} of God - This is a pure & spiritual
{Kingdom} - flesh & blood cannot inherit
it - without holiness none can enter
into it -

2. We are farther taught, yt (in) order to
true conversion, the understanding must
be enlightened - There must an affecting
view & perception of divine truths -
These sinners in ye text are said to
have yr heart fat, yr ears heavy & yr eyes
closed, lest they shd see wt yr eyes, hear
with yr ears & understand wt yr heart
& be converted - It is plainly signified
yt there is no conversion without seeing
hearing & understanding - Religion is not
a blind but a reasonable exercise - Repentance not a
passionatly but deliberate change
These expressions in ye text im-
part something more than a
speculative & doctrinal know-
ledge of a truth. Many have thus
& yet remain under ye power of
sin - Yea, the persons here spoken of
are supposed to hear indeed, but not
understand - to see, but not perceive -

- There is a hearing, & hearin seeing, {which}
does not come up to that perceiving
& understanding, with ye heart {which}
is necessary in conversion -
