Contains an alphabetical "Catalogue of Plants from Doctors Linnous [sic] and Hill," referring to Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778) and Sir John Hill (1714?-1775), as well as Manasseh Cutler's descriptions of plants in 1783, numbered 100-140, including Indian cucumber (Medeola), pigeon berry (possibly Rivina humilis), and yellow water lily (Nuphar lutea). There is an index to plants described in the front of the volume.

80 white roots & runs along just under ye surface of ye ground The stalk arises immediately out of ye upper side of this root with out any joint or nob — 8 or 10 inch high — round firm, No radical leaves — stalk leaves stand alternate, oblong, thick smoth Branches rise from ye ala towards ye top — at ye top of ye stalk, & from ala of upper leaves stand flower pedicles & a cluster of ye flowers stand to gether rising on very short pedicles rising from a common center in form of an umbell. The flower is small, white & a tuft of them make a prety appearance —

Plenty among bushies & in old fields.

Calix, & extremly small perianth — which seems to be a continuao. of a divided into 4, scarce descernable segment — these small segments seem to be only ye continuance of ye outer green covering

Calix — 4 ovate, white, patent petals. inserted within ye Cup.

Stam — 4 filiform erect spreading filaments of twice ye length of ye petals. Anthera cylin oblong, depressed erect —

Pistil — The fruit is a berry below ye corrol. But ye top of this berry seems to have a flower cup, within which are ye petals of ye corol, above the claws of ye petals is a protuberance of ye berry which appears, when ye flower is blown like a proper Germen, round & flatish on ye top from ye center rises a single cylindrical Style, less yn 1/2 ye length of ye filaments. (perhaps this Germen ought not to be taken notice of ). Stigma, sessile

Fruit — a Berry, orbicr-compressed — red or green when ripe of ye size of a garden pea & near nearly round & pale blue — one round-seed in ye pulp. large.

Roots — like common Bushes. This Bush or shrub grows to ye hight of ye 6 or 8 feet — excedingly branched, not more yn an inch in diameter near ye ground — The bark is a redish colour, especially ye small
