Contains an alphabetical "Catalogue of Plants from Doctors Linnous [sic] and Hill," referring to Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778) and Sir John Hill (1714?-1775), as well as Manasseh Cutler's descriptions of plants in 1783, numbered 100-140, including Indian cucumber (Medeola), pigeon berry (possibly Rivina humilis), and yellow water lily (Nuphar lutea). There is an index to plants described in the front of the volume.

92 June 11th No. 132 — Wild Angillica Goat Angillica or Stinking Angillica — It is very large Pentand. Digynia — vide other species

Calyx — none —

Corol — 5 patent, or rather reclining, white, petals broadest towards ye apex, emerginated — or per= haps inversly cordate — guess a point inflected like ye wild not certain

Stam — 5 subulated, spreading, very long erect filaments inserted into ye receptacle or Germ. Anthera globular concave compressed striated open in 2 parts —

Pistil. Germen below ye flower green contain ye seed, but has a proper globular whitish yellow within ye Petals. This Germ. emerginated. Styles 2. subulated, erect. Stigma simple

Root — not exam.

Stalks — Grows 4 or 5 feet high 1 inch in diam at base. Striated, hallow, Small hairs. Leaf sent off from ye stalk at joints having a hollow inflated pedicle. Leaf three lobs with 2 deep sinues in ye middle & one in each of the other.

The flowers stand in umbels a flower stalk frequently sent off from ye ala of a leaf — The flowers are small numerous, milk whit. stand on short pedicles wh rise — from ye same center, Round this center on wh ye flower pedicles stand ye is no involucrum, but under ye stalk on wh ye flowers stand — a leafy substance or a leaf — The stalk is of a redish colour 1/2 inch diam — 4 or 5 feet high, branched The Disk of ye flowers are even like that of parsnips ye whole having much ye Ap= =pearance of parsnips — Seen it only in Beverly in one place

Calyx — tubular, 5 segments ye upper one broad blunt — ye 2 under segment accuminated — The tube is hairy, perminant — could see no proper arista or awns.

Corol — 1 petal ringent — tube Cylind= Upper lip, circular, entire, patent Lower lip — 3 segments, ye middle broadest, circular, serrated.

Stam — 4 filiform filament, 2 longer yn ye tube & spreading — 2 shorter. Anthera emerginated compressed —
