139 Jan 13th Juniperus. Sapina? Savin

It is ye Sabina of Miller. One of his species agree well but does note agree with ye Savin a spec. of Lin —

The leaves are lanceolate, sessile, concave, very stif & pricky so as not to be handled without gloves having very sharp points. — placed single around ye branches at a small distance. — The flowers in very short & small cones, numerous rising from ye axilla of ye leaves.

Have not seen ye berries — Grows in Mr. Deans Pasture, in my woodlot — & Mr. Woods pastur in Wenham. It spreads on ye ground for a long way — all ye branches lie prostrate — & not rise more yn 4 or 5 inches — The leaves are given to Horse mixed with ye oats, to prevent & kill ye botts —
