Cor. 5 petals; egg-shaped; broadest towards ye ends, longer, but not so broad as ye segt of calix; inclin inward. but as ye flower advances expand.
Stam. 5 subulated filaments — very long, erect. Anthera simple.
Pist. Germ. compressed; nearly buried, in a large perforated con= =vex receptacle. Stile hardly discernable — Stigmata 2. — (Suppose Stile, Stigmata, Perecarp & Seeds — & Barren florets as Lin & W.
Ob. The upland Maple has from 6 to 8 short Stam. Stigmata reflected — &

The Flowers both kinds in bunches 4.6. or 8 rise from one bud on long flower Stalks — placed by ye side of ye buds. Blossoms dark red. & on a kind of short broad topped Spikes.

Male Flower — Cal. idem Corol. idem Stam from 4 to 5 — generally 5 very long — have never seen any Stigma in ye Male flowers of ye Swamp maple

The flowering buds are beneath ye leafy buds. The flowers are a kind of broad topped spikes but not eaven on ye top —
