Seeds — many roundish but some= wt angular.

Stem round, erect — smooth branched — Leaves very deeply serrated or divided almost to ye larg vein — towards ye base — less toward ye apex — the large serra somewt serrated. — General form obl lanceolated & acuminated — approaching some wt to ye shape of turnip leaf # short pedicles — alternate opposite — flower stems rise from ye axilla of ye leaves. Suporting single flowers — Blossoms bright yellow — in open wood land among hazel & whortleberry bushes.

(31) Augst. 22. (monace. Hexand) Zezania [Zizania] palustris — Tall Grass Zizania palustris by Ben. Browns bridge leaves very broad, long & thick — appears like a reed. Agrees exceeding well — no colour to ye Blossom

Augst 29th. Rumex — 6 Class. 3 order.

The Dock that grows plentiful about houses —

Hermaphrodite — Valves very intire — all gain-bearing with 3 or 4 teeth near ye base — of each of them. The leaves are heart-shaped at ye base — on ye lower part of ye stalk but — & nearly oblong & blunt. may be properly called — heart — oblong — ye ends some wt blunt obtuse — some are acute — ye small leaves — lanceolate — ye border seems to ye rather waved than acute notched. I am in doubt wt ye leaves are in ye spring when it first appears

Augst 28th Rumex Britanica [britannica]. Water Dock. It agrees intirely. The beads, on ye Valves, are not very numerous — — Found it in John Woodberys meadow by his wood on ye river's edge.

Sept. 1. 19 Class — [Frut?]= Coreopsis. New Specs. It agrees very well with ye genus — except, yt ye [aions?] seeds are four — ye edges of ye awns have hooked Spines — ye hooks down ward — the edges of ye seeds also have hooked awns

Sedoides — No — Flower The calix appears to me to be more properly — 5 leaves than to be only one with 5 segts from ye segments are at a great distance & seem to be acute leaves with a broad base rising from ye recepticle — It has no corolla — nor any appearance of any — the other parts agree very well —

34 blossoms stand along ye upper end of ye branches, on short pedicles, alternate with their disks upwards — no leaves or props — they have ye appearance of a long double rowed spike — The Blossom appears whitish — but after ye anthera are fallen, when it is properly out of Bloom they appear reddish — Grows in low moist land — com= =monly on ye borders of Swamps — Very large at a point of Giddings Swamp that runs into the Swamp. —

Sept. 7th. (Syng. pol. Sup) Gnaphalium, odoratissimus or it may be undulatum

It does note seem perfectly to agree with either — I am uncertain whether it be Chry= =socoma or Argyrocoma. For ye appearance of ye blossoms, as it grows, is a shining yellowish colour, ye scales & ye top of ye disk having a shinning yellow cast. But ye
