[purpu]rea"- I will endevour to ascertain the fact — Neither have I ever seen a species of Sarracenia similar to the one you found growing in Chesterfield — The purpurea I have seen cultivated and growing in great perfection in Bartram's garden on the Schuylkill. The flava & rubra are very common in the low marshy places in this neighbourhood & these are the only species I have yet seen growing in their native situations. Having lent my Persoon to Mr. Elliott I [w]ill gladly accept your kind offer & wi[l]l thank you to send the books ([Wal]ter & Mecklenberg's catalogue) by Judge James — I have Willdenow's Linnaeus, but without the assistance of some other book I am sure I shall sometimes be at a loss — There are many families of plants & a great number of species described in Persoon's work which which are not contained in my edition of Linnaeus — I like Persoon's arrangement better than any I have seen — he has with great propriety I think abolished the classes Polyadelphia & Polygamia — I am Dr Sir with great respect & estee[m] your Obedt Mr. W. Anderson
