Description

The withdrawal of blood from a patient to prevent or cure illness and disease. Aka bleeding, blood-letting, venesection, V.S., "the lancet", "the steel", "breathing a vein". The most common method was phlebotomy (venesection), and the less common methods were leeches, arteriotomy, and scarification.
