O! lavish bliss, why this dissolve in haste,
Why lay the calm of dear connection waste,
And instant burst the bands of concious love,
Resplendent as the rays, that clothe the dove?
Begold the happy train in tears depart,
With Harvards honors stampt on ev'ry heart,
Bid with the dreay thot, that fate controls
And rends the dearest friends from nearest souls ~
Behold the pensive croud, each forc'd to fly,
While sorrow swims in ev'ry flashing eye,
Or means the wish, the swollen heart confines,
In silence deep, in bid disord'erd minds;
The valediction breaks from deeep usspence,
And passion burtsing half destroys the sence
Of words half utterd from the faultring tongue,
Whence flows the soft farewell sincere & long;
Perhaps no more to meet till Gabriel flies,
With hosts attending down the vauted skies,
And with the Trump of God shall burst the graves
Where sleeping dust of friends & foes and slaves
In silence wrapt, shall instant life receive,
Put on the man & all eternal live;
