Beneath & in the blaze of yonder Sun,
That rools spectator of my scarlet crimes,
And tells my blackest sins to distant climes?
And no excuses nigh for me to bring,
So plead me innocent or blunt the sting,
Of my condemning conscience now my foe,
That will not cease to damn my crimes with woe
And at the awful bar will me condemn,
And on my punishment repeat amen,
With all the plaudits of the court of Heav'n,
To seal my doom by God & Angels giv'n;
To damn to flames, or happify my soul,
With pleasures flowing from effusions whole
Attending friends O! would you learn to die,
Behold your picture here in agony!
Mark how my eye balls rool & flash with dread
At fate impending & the gloomy shade,
Thro which e'er long my sould must shape its way
And bid farewell to friends to night & day ~
